Socks and stripes and a scarf-wearing penguin

I worked on a lot of projects  and did a bit of reading last week, thanks in part to Winter Storm Jonas. We ended up with over a foot of snow, currently melting away, but when it was here the whole family did get out in it. I am pleased to report that several handknits were used to keep us quite toasty and that is certainly motivating to get to work on the pile of WIPs!

Socks in Progress

I’ve passed the halfway point in finished Felicia Day’s book. There is so much in this book with which I can identify, even as a non-gamer. I’ve never played World of Warcraft but being plugged in to some social online community for the last 14 – 16 years, I understand. Of all my online “worlds”, I’ve been on Ravelry the longest. Remember when everyone found out their Ravelry number? I was in the first thousand (#979 right here). This is a completely enjoyable book and I plan to dig up The Guild series to check it out, and look forward to seeing her in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot! I just couldn’t wait to pick up a new book today, so after school drop-off I made a quick visit to the library and picked up The Penguin Lessons. I am a sucker for packaging. C’mon, penguin in a scarf? I’m sold.

I ended up doing a little bit on several projects because at the moment the one sort of project I do not have on the needles is one where I can sit and just knit away. I don’t really care if it’s stockinette or garter, but something that can be mostly autopilot. The Christmas Stocking is enjoyable to knit, but I have to pay attention to the chart. My Cream Socks (pictured) are reminding me how much I love sock knitting, but after I got through the leg I had to pay attention again when the heel turn happened. There is a new scarf-shawl that is started, but only 10 rows in so not much to show. There’s a secret project, the second mitten for my son (too much happens too quick for shaping), a fingerless mitten for my daughter (another chart), always something.

I was playing around, trying to settle on colors to make an Infinite Rainbow Cowl. This madelinetosh tosh merino light in Pelican was paired with several highlighter colors, blues and greens, and this blurpley set. It has been sitting on the window sill and several times today I noticed it and really loved it, I’ll be winding yarn soon!

  1. Blurpley is such a great word. Somehow I knew exactly what it meant!
I always like to have a mindless project and some harder ones. It’s important to always have the right knitting!
