End of the Quarter

Yet again my blog was set aside. Let’s just call it summer slide and move on.

The Q3 KAL for the EatSleepKnit Yarnathon required using yarn that was exclusively dyed for the shop.

Violet Waffles Hat

Nutmegknitter's Violet Waffles Hat

The Violet Waffles hat pattern is one I have heard mentioned so many times on different podcasts and blogs. The yarn is Mrs.Crosby’s Steamer Trunk in “A Sweet Race”. It’s a solid pattern, works well with the variegated yarn, and I would make this again.  Size-wise, it’s a bit snugger than I would like for me, but it’s perfect for the kids. Do you like my hat stand? I picked it up when a local shop held a retirement sale/everything must go.

Test Knit Swing Left Sock

Nutmegkntiter's Swing Left Sock #1

Continuing my sock kick, I have one sock knit in Twist Light “Willy Wonka”, also from 2017. This was a test knit of Megan William’s, Swing Left.  You could knit this in two colors and I wonder if that would make it a bit easier to read/intuit what comes next. In no way was the pattern difficult, but after how many pairs of plain vanilla socks and especially in a test knitting situation, I had to pay attention. If you are a right-handed knitter, your motif will swing left. I am a left-handed knitter and my motif swings right. Knitting socks two-at-a-time is my go-to now and so it feels a bit strange to finish with only one sock. This was a fun pattern it’s comfy to wear, so it shouldn’t be single for too long.

Sea Witch Shawl

Nutmegknitter's Sea Witch Touchstone

My third project is the Touchstone shawl in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Silky Targhee Sea Witch. This was an auto-pilot knitting project worked on in the car or watching television. It resembles the pattern but doesn’t match it as I know I didn’t count my garter ridges correctly. As I’ll be wearing this wrapped around my neck, it’s not a big deal. I did not win my session of Yarn Chicken. That’s a game knitters play and they knit faster to out knit the yarn when you can see you won’t have enough to finish. I ran out in the middle of the bind-off row. Oops. I was able to sort of loop the stitches through each other, like you would a crochet chain, to bind off the rest of the row.

The fall weather is here! Piles of wool on my lap are most welcome. There’s more than just socks on the needles!
