A New Hat

I love hats. One of my first successful knitting projects was an Ann Norling Fruit Hat for a baby. I am pretty sure I still have the pattern somewhere. I have knit hats for charity, for myself, for my family. I have to say that taking pictures of hats is one of my least favorite things.  Hats staged on fruit and baby dolls is weird to me and rarely makes for a good photo. I don’t have balloons around, and it’s really tricky to take a good hat selfie. This morning, while waiting for the school bus, the pictures I tried to get (thinking natural light would be better) ended up to be just an okay shot of the hat, but a decent enough one of the kids.

On to the actual finished object! This is the Ebb Tide Hat – High Tide version. I was a bit nervous at first as the cost on number seemed really large to me, but it worked out just fine and I even had a bit of my skein left over. The cables are great and the whole pattern would be great for guys as well! The yarn is Mewesic from Green Mountain Spinnery. Full disclosure, I have a working relationship with them, and this blog post is done all on my own, apart from any work related task. They brought this new yarn to Rhinebeck and it was on my “Must-see” list. I was not disappointed – it’s wooly and rustic and tweedy and way softer than I thought it would be! Right from the description,

100% wool sourced from farms in New England and across the US features a blend of the soft wools from Rambouillet, Columbia, Targhee and Friesian sheep mixed with the lustrous fleeces from Corriedale, Montadale and Romneys. The result is a lofty yet durable yarn with great stitch definition.

My colorway is Purple Rain, purple with bits of red and blue. I would love a sweater made out of this.
