Sophmore Year Loopy Academy

A post all about recent FO’s is a pretty good start to the new year! These projects were knit as part of Loopy Academy – Sophmore Year (semester 1).  Three projects were required, one with cables, a pillow, and a project with texture. I am happy this term is in the books as I stumbled along.

Nutmegknitter's Watercolor Heart Pillow

The Watercolor Heart Pillow spoke to me pretty early on. I used Malabrigo Rios in Lotus & Pupuras. However, I don’t really know what I was thinking when I made the front half of the pillow, the part with the intarsia colorwork, as if it were a fair isle project I could strand. It’ll block out…. yeah, not so much.  I decided to redo the front piece properly and of course it made a huge difference. I posted the two pieces next to each other on Instagram if you’re curious.  Promptly my daughter took the pillow away to her room – it was promised to her in the beginning – so I’m glad it’s being put to use straight away.

Nutmegknitter's Koolhaas Cowl

I was surprisingly frustrated on the cable project. I adore cables. I adore this blue-green colorway of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted I bought (it’s Waistcoat). And I could not find a right match of pattern to this yarn! I started fingerless mitts, I started legwarmers, I started a Koolhaas Hat. I had added extra stitches and worked extra repeats for my large head / mane of hair. I decided, as time was running out, to keep going and mimic the ribbing instead of decreasing to a hat. Voila, Koolhaascowl! It’s nice and cozy.

Nutmegknitter's Cool Clavicle Cover

For texture I decided on the Cool Clavicle Cover pattern to go with the “Dino Dudes” colorway of Western Sky Knits. The colorway is very Scooby-Doo / Flintstones. I like this project, but I don’t know that I love it – orange is a tough color for me – I have one orange shirt and I don’t want to go too Halloween or tiger, but on occasion I know it will be a fun pop of cover.

I’m very interested to see what challenges await for the next semester!
